Help with set up

Hi there can someone please help me out here. My set is:-

Philips LCD (1 hdmi, 1 dvi)

Sony 1200 Amp/Receiver (2 HDMI ins and 1 out) plus other inputs

SKY HD

PS3

Apple TV

 

At the moment i have my SKY HD & Apple TV going into my 2 HDMI inputs on my Amp with the out going to my TV and these all work fine. My issue is with my PS3 i have connected direct to my TV via a HDMI into DVI cable so picture is fine but i am struggling to get sound on my PS3. I have tried to connect a OPT cable from my PS3 to a free OPT input on my AMP (video 3)  so i thought when i changed my input on my amp to video 3 i would get my PS3 sound but it does not work! 

Can someone please help me to get sound as well as picture for my PS3

think you may have to change the settings on the amp to tell it your sending sound by optical, but i dont have a sony amp so am guessing tbh

Thanks Dave but can anyone tell me who knows the Sony 1200es how i change the settings to do this? I thought that if i plugged in an OPT into the video 3 sourse it should send sound when i have the amp set to this source?

Hi Andy,

Don't know about the amp (don't have one) but is the PS3 set to send sound out via the optical cable (under sound settings)? I think it defaults to HDMI if that's what the video is going through.

If it helps, on my amp there's an Input Assign menu that you have to set. The optical socket will have something written on it (say game or whatever), but until it's set in here then no sound will come out anyway.

Top man SSwain i just changed the settings on my PS3 as i had to reset the settings on it!

I did not realise that it was set to HDMI audio
