Having just bought a Sony KDL-46hx903 and being told in no uncertain way NO on getting the BDV-e870 i now hold some worry on getting 3D pictures, is there a firmware upgrade for the BDV-e300 for it to be able to manage 3D blurays? if not what would be the best way to transfer HD audio from my 250gb PS3 to my BDV-e300?

any help would be greatly apreaciated on this matter.

Regards Justin.

no, thats a 2d system, you can use you're ps3 for 3d blu-ray playback, but you will need to connect it directly to you're tv, you cannot use the bdv-300 for audio when watching a 3d blu-ray, its not 1.4 hdmi compatable..

if you want external sound you will need to buy an av receiver that has 1.4 spec hdmi ports. you may be able to use you're existing speakers with this amp, but would be better off buying some better ones to be honest..

Thanks for the reply, the big problem is the wife, i thought getting the bdv-e870 was a great compromise to my getting an external av reciever, obviously not in my wifes eyes

i was hoping that as with the bdv e870 i could get an update to make the bdv e300 3d ready, obviously not.

surley if i run an optical cable from my ps3 to my e300 i can get audio? i really dont think i can persuade the wife into getting anymore video/ audio equipment in the forseable future.

im not 100% sure, but i dont think an optical will work, afaik the only way to get external sound is by using a 3d ready avr, although some report that some non 3d avr's do work with the ps3 for 3d playback, either way, its a minimum of a new avr, or 3d compatable all in one system if you want external sound ..

Thanks maxflinn your help on this matter means a lot, how about i get a 3d ready bluray player and then have component to my e300 for audio? im going to try the optical cable route first then if that fails ill try either getting a 3d ready bluray player or if that fails try and try to persuade the wife on maybe a less intrusive 3d hciab.

thanks for your help maxflinn

regards justin.

You can get 5.1 audio, just not HD audio, you can run the optical from your TV which will output in 5.1 DD and DD+.
