hi there iam in the same boat with the same needs as you! i like the sony v5500 but was wondering if the pioneer 32 lcd which can still be had for £599 was as good or better i know its older then the sony and it uses sharp lcd panels.

If anyone knows how they compare to each other.

cheers

PS iam in the middle of a renovation and deciding on what av amp to get and 5.1speakers this would be my first foray into the world of home cinema.

Hi Guys,

Obviously the 32V5500 is a good choice being the current recommended best buy. However I did see the Samsung 32B650 in a shop and thought that it was very impressive for the price, I would say pretty damn close but apparently you might need to use "Game Mode" with the 360 as the processing can lead to a little bit of lag.

I got a 37" LCD which I at present use after selling a good 50" set. I would personally not make Full HD a priority or pay extra for it on a 32" (or 37") set unless it's part and parcel of a good tv you set your heart on anyhow.

As always, my opinion only.

I used to think the same as you drummerman until a few weeks back when I was helping a friend look for a TV and I actually saw a demonstration of two 32" TVs of the same make being fed the same HD source, but one was Full HD and the other HD Ready - even at 10 feet viewing distance, the difference in clarity on the Full HD model was startling.

Now of course I have no guarantees the demonstration was a fair one, but I took them for their word and now would consider Full HD on a 32" set if I were to be sitting within 10-12 feet of it.
