Hi all.

Right, i've just got a replacement for my 2 month old LG 32LG5020 (same as the 32LG5000 methinks) and it's fixed the jagged-edges problem my last LG had. The new one seemed fine until I booted up the ol' PS3.

Straight away on the menu screen I noticed that when I flicked from menu to menu, the icons (which move quite quickly in case you've never used a PS3) seemed to go brown when they moved, before they settled still.

I booted up Home and looked at that, and whenever there's high-contrast movement, i.e. someone running past the 'camera', there's a whopping great yellow shadow, almost as if the yellow element to the pixels is a little behind the other pixels. I'm pretty damn sure I didn't notice this on the one I took back.

Anyone come across this before, am I imagining this, is there a way to fix it or should I just take the new TV back again?

Any help hugely appreciated. I'm just growing to like this TV after a shaky start, but honestly, if this can't be fixed on the box itself, I'm gonna try for my money back I think (I've had the TV just under 2 months).

Please respond, is this a unique-to-my-tv thing? I've tried googling but can find anything on the keywords I've used.

Thanks,

Alex.

Hi, Thanks for replying, professorhat. :)

I've done that, and no bananas. It's just the movement that's the problem. I notice it on normal tv now, compared to my old set (which should've been exactly the same, remember) it's much, much worse at handling movement. Everything has a slightly browny yellowy quality to it when in motion, and there's a lot more ghosting after image when something moves.

The screen was advertised with a 6.5ms refresh (although given LG's lying claims about 50,000:1 contrast, I don't believe a word of it any more), so it should be at least reasonably good, right? I bought it because it had one of the quicker refreshes in my budget, as I do a bit of gaming...

On Top Gear it's really noticeable. When the cars are going round the track, the wheel arches have a browny-yellowy after effect to them, and it's not smooth at all. Likewise, when Jeremy's gesticulating in his Clarkson fashion, his hands have the same yellowy-browny colour around them... :(

Is it at least conceivable that the yellow signal could be out of sync with the rest of the colours?

Thanks for your help again, please, please share your opinions, anyone. Because if this set goes back, I have the fun of negiotiating a return, which I really don't want to do. :(

I had this same effect on my old LG32LC2RA, to an extreme conditions where it's actually like motion blurring!

It only seemed to occur after the set has warmed up, and been running for a few hours or so.

Though my TV is quite old, im comparrision and worthless now, so i'm probably just going to dump it and get a new TV.

Just as a side note, I don't know if you get it on your TV but on mine i'll also find the screen "dulling" and start showing artifacts in fixed positions.

Thanks for your reply, Ben.

Actually, once mine's been up and running for a while, it's much better, but when it's just been switched on, it's horiffic. Everything in motion has terrible trails on it with a huge yellow tint on them, and lots of ghosting as well. :(

Should an LCD TV need to 'warm up'???

Right. Solved my problem. Took it back and got it replaced by a Panasonic TX32LZD85. :)

What can I say? Yes, the TX32LZD85 is about £170 more, but frankly I've discovered that with LCD TVs, more than anything else, you get what you pay for. The LG wasn't everything it was cracked up to be, and the Panasonic is sublime in almost every regard.

I have to say a couple of things about Richer Sounds, though... I wouldn't necessarily trust their advice on what to buy in the first place, but if you aren't happy with your purchase then fair play, they sort you out. A not-so-great experience with (imo) an inferior product that they recommended turned around by excellent after-sales service in making sure I was ultimately happy. So my recommendation would be to read reviews and do lots of research before you buy from RS, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend actually making your purchase there. :)
