I wondered if any of you guys out there could help me?

After my exisiting Denon DVD800 went on the blink a while ago I started looking to upgrade to Blue Ray and at the same time update my ageing Denon 2802 AVR which cannot cope with HDMI. After some research a couple of days ago I purchased a TX SR 606 AVR along with a new Panasonic BD35 player from Richer Sounds after getting a really good deal. The upgrade has left me in a bit of a dilema though.

I am contemplating the best way to connect the kit up for HD performance from both digital TV via Sky +HD and also my Panasonic BD35 Blue Ray player. I want to be able to play back either HD source via the TX SR606 through my LG 26LC HD TV and also through my Sanyo PLVZ4 projector?

If I were to take both the HDMI connection and component video plus optical audio from both the Sky + HD Box and the Panasonic Blue Ray player to the 606 could I then take the HDMI out from the unit to the projector but also then take the component video out and a separate optical output from the receiver to the TV?

Would I then be able to watch both DVD Blue Ray and Sky +HD on the projector via HDMI and the same sources on the TV via component video and a separate audio feed?. If not is my only fall back position to use a HDMI splitter to take the single HDMI from the 606 and connect both the TV and the projector via HDMI as whilst the 606 as 4 HDMI inouts it only has 1 HDMI output?

Until I know what will work I don’t want to start buying decent HDMI and/ or component cables and or an HDMI splitter? Whilst on that point I will need a decent 9m HDMI to connect to the projector and at least two 1m HDMI's for the other connections. I want something that will give me good value for money without breaking the bank and after scouring the net for days I am none the wiser as to relative merits of high end cables and the middle of the range stuff. If I do have to go down the splitter route I will need one of them as well. Any helpor suggestions would be really welcome. Thanks

It should work up to a point, though it's going to be a bit fiendishly complex, and of course you're not going to be able to use a digital optical out connection to the TV, even if it has an optical digital input, as the receiver doesn't actually have an optical output. Or indeed a dedicated monitor audio analogue output, though I guess you could fiddle this using the tape outputs.

The component and HDMI feeds from the Sky+HD and Blu-ray player are going to have to be used on separate input buttons, and I'm not sure - not having a unit in front of me - whether you can assign the same digital audio input - ie the one from the Sky+HD box - to two inputs.

Frankly I think using an HDMI splitter is going to be the best bet - this Labgear HDMI splitter on Amazon would seem to tick all the right boxes, but we haven't tested it yet.

Thanks Andrew,

I reckon you are right I was more or less leaning that way myself. Any thoughts anyone has on the cable issue at the end of my original post would be most welcome.

Thanks
