Hi Guys and Gals

my Parents 5.1 system will arrive in a few days

i would love some advice on "how to set it up the best way"

does anyone have this exact system?

they dont have a PS3 so dont have to worry about any of that

i want to connect a Samsung Upscaling DVD Player to the Sony AV Receiver using a Digital Coaxial Cable

then i want to plug the BT Vision Box into it using Digital Optical Cable

will adding both these things that way give me 5.1 DTS Sound etc?

i understand this Sony system has a built in DVD player in it anyway?

so i will be plugging this system to the Samsung Plasma TV using a HDMI Cable

by using the HDMI cable this way, will i be getting the picture and sound ?? and will it be 5.1 ??

sorry to appear stupid, but im confused already

Thanks Very Much

Yes, you will get 'true' multi-channel surround sound e.g. Dolby Digital 5.1/DTS depending on what you're playing. I am not familar with BT vision so don't know its capabilities.

The HDMI cable from the surround sound to the TV is an output, i.e. it will pass the picture from the built-in DVD to the TV and nothing else. The s/s system has no video input capability and nothing is passed from the TV to the surround sound as the HDMI connection on the TV is an inputThe audio will be handled internally by the surround sound system. No 5.1. If you want pseudo surround sound from the TV (freeview), you would need to hook up an audio cable from the TV to the Sony system. This would give you a matrixed effect like dolby pro-logic ii (mixed from 2.0 stereo signal).
