Could really do with your advice and experience guys ;-)

currently got a Dm39 and Dali Zensor 1 speakers, which are bracket mounted on the wall, and now it's time to upgrade with a budget of £700. (One of the speakers has started to rattle on bass heavy tracks)..

I mainly play CD's and music from my iPad/iPod, from Adele to Sabaton (but a lot of Levellers !!), a fair bit of trance/electronica too.

What can you guys suggest?

Also, Am I right in thinking front bass ported speakers To get best results ?

hey. I think that with your budget, the upgrade would be minor if you change everything. I would suggest an Onkyo C-N7050 (cdplayer + streamer), with optical out into a Marantz PM6005 + Dali Zensor 3. I don't know whether it's a significant upgrade, though, but it might be.

On the other hand, you could just get a pair of Dali Zensor 3 and keep the Denon, and save the money 'till you'll be able to buy a SH Naim Unitiqute or Unitilite.

Either way, for close-to wall use, I can't think of anything else, unless you got room and budget for SH Guru Junior, or Wharfedale Jade 3 (or maybe Jade 1) and ATC SCM7 or 11 - but all these options (except for the Gurus) need a bit of space, even if they're closed designs, and require quite some power in order to function propperly.

Thanks.

Went out today and got KEF Q300 speakers. So now on the hunt for an amp and CD player with £400-450 left in the budget.

Im definetly considering the Marantz and Onkyo if I can find a good deal

Never understood why Denon removed the 'out' on these systems - you can use the 38dab as source unit alone - which would allow you to go all out for an amp with your budget.( I'm a believer in focusing totally on one unit at time.....)

That said have a listen to Yamaha's RN500/501 amps with your speakers.

Same price bracket as the 6005 from a very, very underrated manufacturer of amps.

Start saving again for the appropriate source after that.

Care with the Q300, they can be bright (from reading around, haven't heard them). Sounds like a good partner for Nad D3020. Pair that with a cheap Sony bluray or dvd player with optical out.
