i have reectly brought a new panasonic dmp bd 85 on your exelent review. the problem is i only have and older onkyo 595 reciever. i understood that you could get hd audio out of the pany by using the analoge out puts. my reciever has a 5.1 analoge input but dose not respond. can you give me a step by step of what to do please. the pany manual is not very helpful. it also takls about a 5.1 + 2ch down mix what is this. and should i still have a coaxial lead connected for normal dd and dts for whatching dvds. oh and by the way any news of iplayer on the viera cast!!

hope someone can help because i just spen 80 pounds on two extra hdmi cables that wil rech my tv lol

It would help if you could state what options and settings you have selected on the Panny and the Onkyo.

I do know that on the Onkyo you need to select 'Multi ch' - probably a button on the front of the amp itself.

I'm not sure about the Panny but there must be an audio setting where you can choose from either hdmi or coax/optical or analogue and therefore choose the latter.

You would also need to set the Panny to decode the dolby digital / dts so they become (L)PCM and NOT bitstream.

I've had a quick look at the panny manual and you do need to select the (2ch downmix)+5.1channel option in the analogue audio output section; you must also disable the hdmi audio out by setting it to off otherwise the analogue signal may not work properly.

The onkyo should have a setting in the menu to select audio via hdmi or coax or analogue. I think onkyo talk about assigning an audio input signal to each input e.g. select DVD and assign analogue input as its audio.
