Hi,

We are just about to buy a Samsung Frame TV and are looking for a recommendation as to the best possible sound system to go with it BUT WITHOUT CLUTERING THE TV’s simplicity and beauty. We are happy to place quite large speakers / amps discretely to the side but not directly next to the TV (so for example no sound bars!!).

It needs to be great for BOTH watching movies AND playing music.

I know this is asking a lot but recommendations greatly appreciated. Budget is around £1000 and the room is quite large.

Many thanks.

dont know if you mind a classy looking ‘sound bar’ and what length you are looking for in an all in one, but the naim muso is great for a grand, looks cool and sounds fantastic and does all the usual streaming etc.

Trying to find something great with movies AND music is hard enough, but restricting the budget to a grand is making the task nigh on impossible, particularly as you have a large room. Your budget would preclude the use of a subwoofer (which you may not want anyway), which means the speakers have to be very capable on their own, so likely to be fairly big. This means buying quantity over quality, at a budget price.

Then you need an amplifier to go with them, which, depending on the sources you’re likely to use, is probably going to have to include digital inputs, as most video sources won’t have great DACs for audio quality. This bumps up the price of the amp, unless you look at budget AV receivers, which will reduce quality.

As you’ll need digital inputs, I suggest you pop along to a dealer and listen to a few budget AV receivers and some suitable speakers within your price point. If that doesn’t do it for you, your budget is too low for your requirements.

How about an Arcam avr 450 secondhand. May still get one around £450, £500 price point. Q acoustics q3050 speakers. Easy to drive speakers. Get a second hand center as well, could add rear speakers at a later date.
This will depend if you already have a source player or streamer.
