Thanks for reading this - I don't know much about what's available out there and the task of researching everything seems enormous, so I was hoping to cut corners and get some advice from the forum!

I would like to know if there are any TV's with in built availability to FreeSat (I'm sure that FreeView is available built into a TV, but I want the extra few channels on FreeSat), However, I don't what anything to do with Sky or a Sky box, but I also want a DVD player with a hard drive (and preferably the ability to record onto blank DVD's also) with the functionality to record onto the hard drive a whole TV series without worrying about the times and the days it is shown (ie the sort of thing I believe a SkyPlus box offers)

Am I wasting my time? I have a feeling that I would have to subscribe to Sky to get what I want.

Kinds Regards,

H&E

Panasonic do a freesat plasma at the minute, LG are planning to very soon. As for DVD players with a hard-drive, take your pick, there are plenty - I'm happy with the sony. The only thing is, (and i have a separate Freesat box from Humax), that I don't think it's possible to link the auto-record function to the Freesat Electronic Program Guide. My DVD HDD has an integrated freeview tuner, so that's how I used to record automatically. Now, as I only have freesat, I transmit from my freesat box to my DVD HDD and record SD picture/sound by programming the HDD to record at certain times, rather than via an EPG.

If you want the Sky+ type function with freesat, you'll need a Humax PVR (about £300), in which case you won't need a freesat screen.

The TV's with built in freesat are the panasonic PZ81 range & if you need a pvr try the humax foxsat 320gb, around £300.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Am I right in now thinking that I only need to buy a PVR with freesat and hard drive built in to get Sky+ functionality and there's no need to upgrade my TV at all?

Best model to get is a Humax?

Assuming you have an HD ready/Full HD set to take advantage of the limited HD content on Freesat then no,theres no need to replace your tv if your going to buy a Freesat pvr.

The Humax Foxsat HDR is the only Freesat pvr available at the moment, as nobody else makes one as of yet!
