I am looking to buy some floor standing hi-fi speakers to augment the following system:

Linn Sondek LP12 + Linn Ittok LVII arm
Linn Lingo power supply
Marantz CD-63SE compact disc player
Denon TU-260L tuner
Naim NAC 72 pre-amp
Naim Hi-Cap pre-amp power supply
Naim 180 power amp

My current speakers are currently B&W 601s which, while good, do not do justice to the rest of the system, and especially the LP12.

Money available to spend is very limited, so I wish to buy second hand so I get more for my money. I have a tentative budget of £300-£500.

An added complication is that I find the Naim amplifiers a bit analytical for my tastes. Ideally, I would prefer a warmer sound, but my budget is so limited that replacing the Naim amps with an amplifier of similar quality is probably not an option. Also, I would like to firstly find out what a quality pair of speakers could do to the system’s overall sound before dispensing with the Naim amps, as I’ve never heard the amplifiers with speakers better than the 601s.

Is my budget of £300-£500 realistic to obtain some very good speakers second hand that would do justice to the LP12? What would you recommend?

Hi,

If you could stretch your budget a bit further then moorgate acoustics have a pair of s/h Spendor S6 speakers for sale for £599

I'd be tempted myself if not for having just bought another amp...

I've also had DynAudio speakers and Quad 20L2s recommended to me.
