Hearing test, top marks at 65!!!

Today I went for an extensive eye test, and when I say extensive I mean long, drawn out on all sorts of machines, as well as the eye test itself, which was doubly thorough. This is all because of my age, my super eye sensitivity and I am diabetic. Result, very good, up to pilot standard, although the left eye only just passed muster here.

I wont be applying for a job as a 747 jokey . . . I'd like to go back a few decades and ride a Spitfire though . . . 🙂

At the same time, I was offered a hearing test . . . why not? The experience was interesting to say the least, very high frequency at very, very low levels, I scored 100% . . .

I dont know how significant these commercial hearing tests are, made me feel a lot better over what I say and believe I can hear on my hifi system.

Ah but, those decades back you had to duck!!!!! eyes in the back of the head >) I think I have flown into Enstone, many years ago, the 80's. In fact if I remember right, it was the first trip we made together after he got his licence??? I used to navigate, preferd an AA 3-1 map book 8) Jim had a Tomahawk that we used to dive around the skies in . . . them were the days . . . :bounce:

Great achievement but recognise that the fact you've still got good ears and good eyes at 65 is partly because you've obviously looked after them and partly because of good fortune. Pat ourself on the back for the former and thank the great man upstairs for the latter.

Too true MajourFobar, I also have my parents to thank who taught me to look after my eye, teeth and hearing . . . a hifi nut??? . . . the way I abuse my hearing back in the 80's when I was in the trade, late night sessions and hifi shows . . . someone was looking after me?

I still wind the wick up these days, I was listening to Peter Gabriel yesterday, 'Shock the Monkey' and 'Rhythm of the Heat', squeezing as much as I could resonably get out of my TT, Croft amp and now very ancient LB1's, I haven’t learned . . . :doh: I can thoroughly recommend the studio vinyl versions of Gabriels 'StM' and 'RotH', equally I have the live double album 'peter gabriel Plays Live' the quality is not there.

The eye session had its down side, Hazel also had an eye test, she was told she has the beginnings of cataracts in both eyes . . . Fortunately the operation they do these days is very successful . . . it will not become a major problem for a few years yet. Hazel is the complete opposite to me, 66 and suffering with all sorts of problems that should not be evident for another 5-10 years?

Not good but not as bad as it once was. I was more or less born with cateracts, and back in those days (late 60s) they couldn't treat it as well as they can now, and so I've always been partially sighted, as far back as I can remember. The positive side is my bad vision is probably greatly responsible for why I enjoy music and HiFi so much, and why I don't hanker after newer TV technologies like 3D which I would gain little benefit from (though I'll probably buy into it at some point to please wife & kids).
