I've just bought a Beresford Caiman and had it running off my netbook via USB last night. I'd eventually like to connect up a few more digital sources as and when i aquire them (TV, Blu-ray player, Squeezebox perhaps) and i think the Caiman offers the best versatility for the money.

Currently I'm using AKG k240MkII headphones. I'm not going to say anything yet about what I think of the sound this combination produces however I am keen to know what other headphones people have tried with the Caiman or if there is a brand whose 'house' sound is ideally suited to the Caiman.

p.s. I like a warm, rich sound with perhaps a little bass emphasis, but not overpowering.

Sorry you have had no replies yet. I too would be interested to know what the Caiman's headphone out is like.

By your description of the sound you like, you have ideal headphones already, or not?

My Grado SR60i headphones sound very good through my Beresford TC-7520 (with the same LM4562NA opamps fitted that your Caiman has). But I only use headphones when absolutely necessary.

It is much better than an old Rega Ear headphone amp I used to use.

Anyway, you aready know what yours sounds like.

I'm not complaining about the sound I'm hearing, or the details (which for me aren't the be all and end all anyway). I think as idc has said before the AKGs don't do mega over-emphasized bass (also not something I'm into).

I actually do really enjoy the sound from this set-up, it reminds me of a marantz-monitor audio combination i heard a while ago where the bass was nice and full but definitely not overpowering, and a lovely midrange. The treble is also not over emphasised so there's no grating screeches.

I've probably had the amp running for about 10 hours or so and it has improved (and I don't think that's just me getting used to it as a lot of that time I've not been listening). Also the power (thus attainable volume) has improved. WHen brand new I could crank the volume right up and deafen myself, now i can't.

Oh, and even my girlfriend really like listening to it, as in actually enjoyed it. That was to Cash's version of U2's 'One' which does sound amazing.

Right now I'm listenign to U2 'The First Time' - it's really rather good sounding!
