The missus is treating herself to a Yamaha Clavinova (afterall, I have my "toys" (apparently)), but she's asked me to source a decent set of cans for it.

Has anyone experienced the Denon AHD301 (£40 richer's; £35 Peter Tyson)?

Am looking for something decentish in the sub £40 market.

Thanks.

thanks - but the problem is for something as cheap as that, demos aren't really a proper option. Would appreciate the views of someone who has heard stuff in the price range.

Have you head the Sennheiser?

thanks Andrew will take a look (although I tend to avoid the opinions of vendors and amazon reviewers, where possible!). There's nothing worthy in the WHF review section... Presumably there's a mini-test lurking in there (speaking as a new subscriber!).

PS - may change the thread title to "HDMi & Headphones for a digital piano" to get a few more replies...!

Point taken, but the thing about closed back headphones is important IMHO.

I can categorically state that it's not worth spending a lot of money on an HDMI cable for use with a digital piano. A cheap one from ebay will be just as pointless.

Taps foot, waits for some bright spark to point out that Bechstein makes a whole range of pianos with HDMI connections...

I have a Clavinova and wouldn't worry too much about the headphone quality. I think your budget is probably about right.

I use Sennheiser PXC 250 headphones which sound great with HiFi, but only so so with the piano. It just isn't as satisfying as using the Clavinova speakers. Sound quality via the headphone jack just isn't in the same league, but it's fine for personal practice.

The main thing to consider when you purchase headphones is the position of the jack plug. Mine is underneath the far left hand side of the piano keyboard, so make sure you either get headphones with a long cable or budget for an extension cable.
