I am looking at purchasing a blu-ray.

I have a very nice DENON 3803 av amp which I dont have the cash to upgrade. I have heard that if i get a blu-ray player such as a SONY BDP-S550 I can get a 7.1 channel output which will decode HD soundtracks.

Can anyone explain how this works please? What will I need to do connection wise and setting wise?

Thanks CM

Yeah, you can use the multi-channel analogue outs on the player to connect to the analogue ins on your amp. You connect them with phono leads. With the 550 you need to set the output priority to Multi-Channel Analogue and the BD Audio setting to Direct, otherwise it only outputs standard DTS, not DTS-HD (either variant). You can get the 550 for just under £275 if you shop around.
