How are manufacturers going to con you into overpriced digital interconnects now?

the_lhc:It makes no odds anyway, just have a look at the price of a Belkin network cable in somewhere like PC World, absolutely crazy money!

Indeed.

And at PC world almost 3.5x times the cost.

Well yes but I was alluding to the fact that a 300metre box of the stuff is only about 100 quid, you have to add connectors obviously but even so.

Well I am sure that if HDBaseT catches on in home Cinema/AV/Hifi applications, then Russ Andrews will probably oblige with something nicely braided and cryogenically treated (with wooden bits on each end) for a couple of hundred quid a metre.

FrankHarveyHiFi:
Anything but HDMI please!!

You never know, we may actually end up with a high quality cable with a firm, positive connection....

Like DisplayPort and miniDisplayPort?

The issue will be the insistence by studios and broadcasters on HDCP...

JohnDuncan:You had me at "Transition Minimised Differential Signaling".

Who wouldn't go for that!

Presumably this makes sense from an industry perspective? Yet another way to rapidly render obsolete current technology, leading to a flurry of "upgrades" in the clamour to own equipment with the most up-to-date spec...

Why is it that when we have settled with something they come up with things to make you buy ecerthing again , and again with no real benefit at this point, as these cables will carry exactly the same things, and why do companies never put backward compatibility in front of their thinking.

yes I really don't see why LAN cabling can't be the way forward - good connection, works to keep enterprises running 24/7, carries gigabit, excellent profit margin potential for "audiophile grade"...

Looks like they want 'better than excellent' margins

Looking forward to seeing the first gold plated, 99.99999% OFC DCT-treated LAN cable now.

bernasmeister:
JohnDuncan:Already available

$499.00 for 1.5m of LAN cable? Cheap.

I was eating my lunch when I clicked on the link and I nearly choked!

I might have to go for a bit of a lie down while I recover from this...
