Andrew Everard:Higher resolution, better 3D effects, brighter picture, proper colours...

Apart from the 3D effects, you could just as well be describing a full HD plasma or LCD set playing a BD which was a huge leap forward from DVD.

3D element on your 2D set? If you like it so much you are already signed up to the 3D TV brigade.

When the time comes very soon now you can ditch your overpriced Philips and go for real 3D.Futureproof viewing for years of to come.

This is what I find baffling. Some People herald the great Philips 3D scenic three diamensionality effect in theTV images but then have big ???? marks over actual 3D TV sets like it is some oddity. This to me is illogical. If you want the 3D type images so much then a 3D set is what you must own. There is no two ways about it.

So what's the UK launch date for Sony 3D TV?? Why no UK release dates?? Sony Centre staff, any ideas?

Yes very pleased, but when test viewing try perfect natural motion on/off [3d affect] in picture settings as this seems to be the main talked about personal picture preference. The store assistance said there was no difference in 42pfl9664 or 47pfl9664, I got a free philips bdp7500 plus 5yr warranty 1699. i wouldnt have a clue about the sonys x4500 sorry

Things are always left vague at CES - specs, availability and pricing details come in the coming weeks/months. We have a UK-specific, in-depth briefing due from Sony (plus Pana, Tosh, Philips etc) in a few weeks' time - will be far more info to share then.
