I suppose being content, or more to the point ... not, can sometimes be associated with disposable income.

If, like me, there is not that much left over at the end of the month, you (I) think carefully where I spend it.

Could I indulge, I'd perhaps think differently.

As it is, I count myself to the 'lucky few' which are happy with their systems, born out by the fact that I had mine for a few years with only adding to odd thing to it and entirely happy with what it does.

Part of it has probably also something to do with that I don't go to specialist Hifi Retailsers (or Shows) that often these days, especially as my local Movement Audio shops have closed down. The odd visit to RicherSounds but they don't really have much/anything I'd rather have so thats good too.

Having said all that, Chords new Headphone amplifier/DAC looks most interesting for under £400 and I am very tempted to add one because of its flexibility, looks and high end parentage. I may get rid of my Dragonfly and save a little to get one.

Yes I am shallow.

I think I was content for nearly 20 years but was perhaps blissfully unaware of it. Until that is I built an extension and started to consider 'surround sound'. After getting a quote from my local dealer (which was a bit of a shock) I bought a copy of WHF and my blissful contentment was rudely awakened to the endless possibilities and that medical condition 'upgraditus'.

Stuff has got in the way since, but one thing I have learnt reading these pages is to be patient, research thoroughly and demo. I know what I want, and I know what I need, and it makes sense to get something that can do it all, but the cost outlay is quite large but maybe more cost effective in the long run. That's why when I finally make my choice it must accompany a clear understanding that it's a long-term keeper.

Out of interest that quote I mentioned from August 2010 is below - maybe they mistook me for the bloke who parked his Porche outside the shop *shok*

Well even the spam filter was so shocked it would not let me post it*unknw*

It was about £10k's worth

My 'hard realisation' moment was when I concluded that I had accumuated too much hifi and too many ways to the same end goal and similar (fairly decent) levels of performance. So, 2016 will see me culling my box count .... where to start .... ? *unknw*

If you are serious about this, I would start a dialogue with PMC directly.

Hi-fi dealers are not likely to be of much use, though one or two do appear to offer PMCs in active configurations and pro dealers are unlikely to have 'domestic' type listening facilities.

Depending who your dealer is, the ideal solution might be to try and persuade PMC to ship a dem pair of 22.5s to them for you to try. Might take a bit of 'chat' and you may need to put up a deposit for home trial but it is the only really worthwhile way of doing this.

You will need to think of partnering equipment too, something that can output a healthy 1volt + analogue, you are unlikely to find a hi-fi setup that can output AES/EBU digital. You will need solid 24 inch stands and it would be best if you familiarised yourself on the dsp setup, particularly the eq, it can be a bit daunting first up.

Thanks again Dave. I've already posed the question with my local Sevenoaks SAV branch and they seem open to it as possibity, but I may need to twist their arm a little for a home trial first. I was considering using my current gear as the front end, amp output is 1.6v pre out. I'm guessing this would suit? This could all be a year or two away as I need to get some cash together; but good to explore possibilities and plan ahead.

Apologies to the Major for the unauthorised sub-let of his thread *give_rose*

Unless there is something wierd with the impedance that should be ample, the twotwo series has a sensible range of gain.

Whether it will be a good match sonically is more of a doubt, I would imagine the 'signature' sound of the Marantz comes from the pre-amp, just how that stands up to the scrutiny of speakers of this type is open to question.

Still, if you can get your hands on a pair of twotwos, it will be fun finding out.
