Hangs Head in Shame...

For the first time in many years, this evening I listened to Pink Floyd: The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, all the exaggerated, experimental stereo effects work great on headphones. After listening to it, I suddenly realised that among all the Floyd albums I have, I have no copy of Arnold Layne, must have been the case ever since I switched to CDs and sold my vinyl, decades ago...

How can I call myself an aging Pink Floyd fan without Arnold Layne?

A copy of Relics, the only album I am sure includes it, will be incoming soon to correct this gross error.

Should I ban you until it gets here? :D

You made me realize I don't really have it either. I had Relics on cassette tape years ago and apparently never got the CD. There's a relatively new 2CD - The Early Years box set that has it but I don't have it. And there are several versions on the 18CD A Tree Full of Secrets box set which I have on MP3 but not on disk.

I don’t normally buy compilation albums, when I already have all the tracks on the original albums but, Relics is a good selection of their early work. I’m not really interested in the later compilations.

I’d never heard of it, and not being a PF devotee had to look it up. Is it actually a Floyd album to you fans, or simply a diversion by a member?

BTW I do own DSOTM and WYWH, and grew up with The Wall in my Hi-Fi shop days, so I’m not a completely lost cause!

Pink who?
There was this poster on the Wam who'd never heard of them.
As another said, 'Are you taking the p1ss?'
But then, as I pointed out there, my brother posted a video of Concorde on YouTube.
In the comments section, someone said, 'What's this? Some sort of fighter jet?

Me, I'm afraid. We had an HMV and two good independents.
I had independents, as well as HMV and Our Price, but the advantage of non-specialists such as Woolies, were that they often chucked decent stuff in the cheap bins (as they didn't know decent stuff from their elbows).
Two of my favourite 12" singles came from Martin the newsagent, for 25 pence each.

One that I can remember buying there was Stevie Wonder Songs in the Key of Life
It was in the last century though.

Of course it was in the last century, all the best stuff was.
I'm pretty sure I bought my CD version of that in Woolies......even though I already had it on vinyl......then went on to get it as 24/192 download.
(Well, as you know, you can't have too much of that album - especially 'Another Star' , absolutely fantastic (y) )

Which two 12"singles were they then. Cant go wrong with a 12 " I have two FGTH 12" singles

OMG!!! This is bringing back so many memories, didn’t have a Martin’s but had a Centre News, bought a few cheap bits of music from them, and also WHS who were close by, if memory serves me correctly I picked up Blondie’s Parallel Lines and Meatloafs Bat out of Hell from one of them.

You're right.
And if your FGTH is the Trevor Horn remix of 'Two Tribes', that I heard, no wonder you like it.
For the same reason, whatever you think of Grace Jones, the Trevor Horn produced 12" of 'Slave To The Rhythm' is something special.
(Think another, dedicated thread might one day be in order for 12" single recommendations).
