great amp for under £300

Hey there,

 

what amp should I get for £300  with a pana 42 plasma,  and  mission m cubes with ps3 blu ray

 

- i wanted an sony dgr 820 but they seem hard to get hold of, are there any new ones that are worth waiting for?

 

oh I need full hd sound and at least 3 hd inputs i guess,

 

any help would be really appreciated

A feature packed amp for under £300.00? You won't go wrong with the Onkyo TX-SR605. I've seen some re-furbished units going for £250.00 on E-Bay. It originally cost £400.00 not too long ago and is an award winner.

It will decode all of the HD Sound formats, but I think it has only 2 HDMI inputs and 1 HDMI output. This amp is certainly a step up from the Sony 820 or Yamaha 763, in my opinion.

Have to say Onkyo 605 is a fine bit of kit. I have never regreted buying mine.

I think with m cubes it will sound great.

I have the Onkyo 605 and I love it to bits. When I initially had the JAMO A102 HCS5, I had a listen to the Sony 820 and Yamaha 763. The Sony, I felt was too bright and the Yamaha just lacked the oompphh for me.

Then I got the Onkyo 605 (used, on E-bay) and have not looked back since. Great amp.

Yes, 605 does HD. The PS3 can only output HD soundtracks as LPCM, so will work fine with the Onkyo.

Will I regret not shelling out a bit more for say a 606 or such like with the added TrueHD or DDPÿ

features etc, ÿI suppose its all price the 506 = £194 ÿand the 606 = 379

oh also whats the sccop on this new onkyo 507 ÿ is this just an upgraded 506?

Onkyo 605 has onboard decoding for all the main formats like Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio so no worries on this.
