I wonder if anyone could tell me if it's a worth the upgrade from Grado PS1000 to the Focal Utopia, bearing in mind that the Utopia's are about twice as much. But can it justify the price and is it worth the difference ?

I had the PS1000e for a couple years, and it was not comparable to the Elear, let alone the Utopia. But that's based on sound "quality", which is a combination of several factors. In frequency response alone though, the Utopia and PS1000 should be as different as night and day. Grados tend to have a strong output in the lower treble, and the Utopia will be pretty much the opposite. Not that either of those headphones have an extreme variation from flat, but since the PS1000 goes one way and the Utopia the other way, the comparison would be dramatic.
Thanks for that Dale, i was talking to a guy on another forum who has both and he said even though the utopia's had more micro detail, he said he still prefered the sound of his ps1000 (first generation) his favourite of all his headphones.
