I have managed to get my hands on a second hand cyrus 8vs amp. The question is what cd player, speakers and cables should i partner it with. My budget is around £800 (i might be able to stretch it a bit). It is going in a pretty small bedroom (2.5m x 4m). Not averse to using headphones if they will give a better option.

Other than looking at the second hand market, you could pick up a Rega Apollo for £475, and some Monitor Audio RS5's, RS6's, or RS8's to suit room or budget.

Personally I think Monitor Audio speakers would be too bright. I used Epos 12.2's with my 8vs which can be had 2nd hand for £300-ish.

I would avoid Monitor Audio speakers unless the CDP errs on the side of restraint.

With the budget s/hand or ex-dem seems the only route out - look at Arcam CD73T as a minimum.

Look on ebay and check the prices for Cyrus 6s. The last time I looked I noticed one for around £400 + Epos M12's (check on Epos's website).

I had a demo of Epos M5i's the other week and was impressed with them. I'll check out the M12's. I am just a bit worried that due to the lack of space i won't be doing the speakers justice, hence the thought of going down the headphone route.

I had that amp on the old EPOS M12's and they sounded superb and youll have lots of change left over for wire and good stands. Im just saying

Space is tight so i would ideally be looking for smaller speakers. Something around the size of PMC DB1's but with a smaller price tag would be good.

The Epos M12's aren't big speakers and one of mine is running close to a back wall. If you think you'd prefer headphones though buy some, you can always get speakers later.
