Getting Sky HD programmes onto DVD/Blu-ray at the same quality?

What I want to know is, is there a way to record your Sky HD films to a DVD, Blu-ray or whatever while still retaining the same quality. I keep getting told there's no DVD recorder that has an HDMI-in. When I tried to record the recent Lions series onto DVD using my Pana DVD recorder it looked hellish, because the only way of connecting my Sky HD box to the recorder is with a scart lead. Help. Really hacked off about this. Alternatively if the Sky HD box didn't have half of its capacity taken up by bloody Anytime, I wouldn't have the same archive problem. What is THAT all about???

Your best bet is to replace the hard drive in the HD box for a bigger one.

So does that mean there is no way of copying? So much for technology making things easier and better!

There is no way of copying HD content off the STB. Most HD content is copyright protected by the broadcaster's anyway!!!!!

As Gerrardasnails suggested, the best option is to upgrade the HDD.

Thanks to you both.

So why was it that I could quite happily record anything that was on my old Sky+ box straight onto my DVD recorder? Altho I suppose I can still do that but it just looks rubbish!

Short answer, because it's SD material so no such copyright issues!

j_fowler:or turn off anytime and leave it as is
Though turning Sky anytime off doesn't give you any extra recording space! That part of the harddrive is reserved for Sky use regardless of whether anytime is turned on or off...

The only PVRs that currently allow you to archive HD content at HD quality are Panasonic's Blu-ray recorders, which let you burn Freesat HD programmes (ie BBC HD and ITV HD) to Blu-ray - though again, not EVERY show, as some of these (especially movies) are copyright protected, so you can record them to PVR but not copy to disc.

Thanks.

I tried the scart thing but to no visible effect.

Also, another infuriating point is that my Sony HD camcorder has an HDMI out but I have no means of copying the HD video (which is surely MY PROPERTY) to any form of useful format. Again, I should be allowed to copy it using my DVD recorder (with a non-existent HDMI in). The Pana Blu-ray recorder is no better in this respect. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
