Ok I have looked for Genelec stockists and found only one in my county ...

... as you can see it's not a shop or warehouse, just a tiny 'unit' where they receive ordered goods and then ship them onwards.

Where do you guys find all these places where ranges of different active pro monitors can be demo'ed and compared with each other?

London.

Pro-audio shops are pretty rare outside major cities. Digital Village (DV247) are your best bet if you want to have a listen to some active monitors.

Where are you Chebby?

A long way from Romford or Brent Cross or Hornsey.

I'm only 1.5 hours (and about £35 return fare including tube) by fast train from central London but #### knows how long away from those other places.

We 'do' London a few times a year for pleasure. But Romford? (DV247) Where the #### is that?

Genelec's are in no way 'clinical' or anylitical or anything like that. They're just very clear (which is what makes them good monitors) and it's this high clarity without many of the usual distortions that make them very pleasant and easy to listen to.

The Opal's have more/deeper bass and dynamic range and are also very good clarity. Personally I think the mid-range and treble on the Genelec's is slightly better because the Opal's mid/bass driver has more in common with a subwoofer type driver and it struggles to reach into the high frequencies where it crosses over with the tweeter.

Give them both an audition. I'm sure you'll be very impressed with them both. Also give Quested a listen too if you get the oportunity.

There's a map on their website.

Funky Junk is in Hornsey Road, London.

I'm sure there will be plenty more pro-audio shops in and around London. Do a bit of Googling or give 118 a call.

Here's a small selection of what Funky Junk have available. Give them a call before hand if there's a specific monitor that you want to listen to and they'll probably set it up in their demo room for you when you get there.

Depends which price range we are discussing of course. Genelec make monitors that blow the Events out of the water for DR and bass...at a price :)

I'm pretty sure Gear4music (online store) will accept returns on goods up to 30 days. *runs off to check

Yeah, 28 days money back guarantee. "if you decide it's not suitable for any reason we will offer a replacement or full refund"

True.

The £6000 Genelec 8260a are an engineering masterpiece.
