I am purchasing a Yamaha RXV 1067 amp and am trying to create a very short list of front speakers to match to replace my Qacoustis 1020s. (will replace rears later). I think I need to stay with front ported speakers because space is tight to the rear and sides. I'm thinking perhaps Kef Q100 /Q200 or Monitor Audio BX2s or B&W 685s. Which if any would be a good match.

They will be used primarily for movie viewing and TV.

I'd be very interested in any suggestions and advice as a relative newbee, thanks.

Hi artee

If space is at a premium then i think you may still struggle with all three set of speakers you've listed as they all have quite a fair bit of an obvious character especially in the bass region.

As an alternative i'll recommend that you also consider ATC's SCM7 and C1C. The ATC's are closed box designs and more importantly are flat and honest in their presentation enabling them to be positioned close to walls and tight spaces with the LF getting itself into a twist. SCM7's and C1C will work well with Yamaha's RX-V1067.

All the best

Have you considered the Q800ds dipole surrounds for side use? These take up far less space than standmounts.

I really appreciate your suggestions given I'm really unfamiliar with type and characteristics of what is on offer. When I popped into Sevenoaks for a look I really felt like I was being sold too rather than perhaps advice. So getting your feedback helps a great deal... I'm unfamiliar with the names you've mentioned .... I'll go and search them out. Many thanks guys. :)

..... I'm curious, what is the advantage of the 'closed box' design compared to front ported? The space I have available behind the speakers is 15-20cm max and floor standing is not an option. If I can't track down the SCM7s you mentioned, what others may be worth a look.
