Does the inbuilt freeview/freesat tuners that are installed into the tv output the picture in RGB? i assume they do, also would a freeview/freesat box give a better picture than an inbuilt tuner due to upscaling or just generally better. Reason i am asking is i am going to put a 32" tv in my back room and can't make up my mind whether to get one with freesat built in, run the cable from my Sky dish or get a good digital aerial fitted and not run Sky to that TV.

Hi,

Freesat requires a dish to receive the signal.

Freeview only requires a rooftop aerial (which I'll assume you already have) although depending on age and location you may need to renew this. You can get some poor tuners within digiboxes and tv's. You'd have to check both signal and picture quality in your area for yourself. Some freeview boxes will also contain twin tuners, HDD's or DVD recorders to allow you to record but not many TV's have this addition.

As far as I can remember most freeview digiboxes do not upscale. Your new TV will to a certain degree. It'll upscale the picture from the standard 625 lines to it's own resolution to fill the screen. This could be anything from 720 (HD ready) - 1080 (full HD) lines depending on the model you buy.

The choice of channels you want to watch may dictate whether you want freeview, freesat or Sky.

Enjoy.

Cheers,

Cofnchtr.

Depends what channels you watch most. If it's the BEEB then Freeview is fine and the Tv will probably be cheaper. If you want to watch HD (not that it will make much difference on a 32 inch set) then Freesat may be a better choice.

Ultimatly Freesat does not have the bandwidth restrictions that Freeview does so there is no need to used such a compressed signal. That does not mean that some broadcasters don't use a compressed signal on Freesat or Sky come to that BTW.
