The disadvantage through the receiver is you'll have to have it switched on in order to view Freesat (unless you're lucky enough to have one that allows a signal to pass through when switched off = rare).
The disadvantage of going direct to the tv is your sound is restricted to the format the tv puts out. I'm sure someone said the Kuro optical only puts out stereo but that said, on mine I get glorious Dolby Pro Logic II no problem. It sounds right and its identified as Pro Logic II by the reciever (Onkyo 605). Whether you'll get Dolby Digital Out from the TV with Freesat, I don't know, but if it transmits Pro Logic II out I can't see any reason why not.
Maybe someone else can give a definitive answer, but at least this throws one or two issues into the pot.
