having bought freesat and connected it up icould not recive stv in hd i tried everything then i took it back to argos got a replacement unit only for it not reciving stv hd football as when i typed my postcode it only recived bbc in hd back again to argos after 2 bush freesat boxes i now had humax freesat at 50 pounds dearer again it would not recive stv hd --- after phoning stv i was told if you stayed in glasgow area you will not recive itv hd not a happy chappy back to argos i went they knew nothing about this got refund then i saw in my local rag if you typed in english post code you will get stv hd or itv hd after all the trouble i finally have itv hd --- so if you live scotland you have to use english post code ---- why did argos know nothing about this problem --- sorry i am not a tech head
 
That is SO wrong. Im not blaming Argos, but having to do that is ridiculous. Whats the reason behind it??

Reminds me of having to use an american ZIP code to use the internet radio 😛
 
hi it seems stv is independent company. and not part itv franchise and use there own transmitters in scotland .and will not pay itv to send hd content north of the border. but then as stated use english post codes and every thing is ok only problem is you only get english programs no scottish programs i now recive granada news no scots regional news ----ps---- you need to type your post code into your free sat box with the remote on set up of box to recive any programs

It's to ensure regionalisation of your content (ads, news, local progs etc), since it's all coming from one satellite, unlike terrestrial freeview which is governed to some extent by which transmitter is your closest. But STV are a separate company, and chose not to do HD, I think.
