I've just bought a 1Tb external drive and want to format it with FAT32 so I can plug it in to the PS3. My understanding was that although Windows has problems with large FAT32 partitions, the actual limit of FAT32 was 8Tb. I've tried Swissknife and Partition Magic, but the maximum either will format the drive to is 400Gb and 200Gb respectively.

Any help appreciated, am ideally wanting the PS3 to see a 1Tb drive.

cheers

What brand is the hdd?

If it is WD then they have a tool for that.

If not, cross fingers and try

or

H2format (in deutsche only)

found a new one

Tried Swissknife, it only see's the drive as 400Gb, but does actually succeed in formating as 400Gb/FAT32.

The tokiwa app didn't like it at all, and my German goes as far as Auf Wiedersien Pet...

Thanks for looking those up for me... might have to look at formating it outside of windows - thought partition magic "did everything"!

Well, maybe the German's have done it... windows computer manager is seeing a 931Gb FAT32 drive (and I can copy files to it, which is always a good sign)... now to see if the PS3 recognises it...
