I bought an Onkyo DV-SP406 DVD player recently
I suppose the best way to connect it to my TV is via a HTMI cable, correct?
In case my TV doesn't have HTMI which is the best way to connect the Onkyo to my TV?
Is there something better than the SCART output?

Thanks in advance!

Ok thanks a lot
So to summarize (please let me know if this is correct): the best ways to connect a DVD to a TV are

1. HTMI
2. Component
3. RG Scart

Are there any other possible ways for direct connection between the two?

Thanks!!

You mean HDMI surely? And its RGB Scart! And yes, theres an 's-socket' and basic 'composite' also (s-sockets comparable to scart whilst composite is just awful)

But you really should connect with the hdmi where possible. Component is the next best but it doesnt send 'sound' down the line im afraid (You would need a seperate amp for the sound)

If you connect via scart you need to be aware there are 2 types (Just to confuse matters

RGB and COMPOSITE. You need it to be rgb.

You don't make it simple aliEnRIK, hence your username I suppose. No, I think the prof had it pretty wrapped up.

Yes I mean HDMI and RGB Scart :)
Now I am a bit confused about Scart RGB and Scart Composite........
How do I distinguish them? Do you know if the Scart on Onkyo DV-SP406 is an RGB or Composite?
Can my TV accept only composite Scart and not RGB Scart?
Do I have to be careful in the Scart cable to buy? Are there different Scart RGB and Scart Composite cables??

Thanks!!

Check your manual. It will tell you which scart sockets accept RGB (usually labelled scart 1 or socket 1)

So long as the scarts wired on all the pins (which are all but the VERY cheapest or certain 'special' ones that have had the sound ones removed) then its fine. I recommend THOR scarts personally (Richer sounds still sell them I think though my local B+Q have them too!)

It should also flash on the screen if its in RGB or not when it first powers up (Though this is tv dependant)

The Onkyo will be rgb (Though it may need selecting from within its menu screens)

What tv do you have?

Sorry if all this sounds confusing :s

(Octo? I was just trying to answer his questions)
