It works.

It's also got just the right degree of flexibility and it's precisely the correct length, so everything drapes nicely out of sight (but only just) and puts no strain on the AEX optical connection (like it did with an adaptor on my last attempt).

The whole AEX/AirPlay/optical connection to the Quad's DAC sounds fine and I am happy which also makes it sound good.

i also have bought some new audioquest cable this week to connect up my squeezebox touch better.

main reason was that i am using an old and cheap 10m optical cable (which used to run under floorboard in my old house from the tv area to hifi) - and now will have a new 0.6m audioquest forest digital coaxial for £18 just to go from my squeezebox to dac. so whilst this was more to remove reams of cable lying around - you never it may also improve things

in addition and even more contraversial i bought a 3m audioquest pearl ethernet to go from the router to the squeezebox. this is to replace another old grey 10m long cable which hides under the sofa most of the time but i want to tidy it all up. so i took a bit of a punt on a £33 new cable just to see if it helps at all. i wont mind much if it doesnt change anything - i will at least feel like i set it up to perform better and my wife will be much happier with my cables tucked away in trunking

should arrive next week so we will see

I have a 5m Belkin network 'patch cable' that is in boring grey (£10 from Argos about 5 years ago). I might 'upgrade' it to a total overkill Cat 6e Belkin cable in a loud blue to match my next purchase (the clue is in the colour and my jumpers). Or I might go for bright canary yellow for the contrast.

I also need a couple of TDK ferrites (11mm internal diameter) and a little screw-on bracket for my new Airport Express so it can go - invisibly - behind/under the system but not on the floor or dangling somewhere halfway.

Then it'll be a white MK Safety plug and a white fig. 8 mains lead that I can shorten to the correct length (the Apple one is too long). Then, if I sell it, the customer can still have the original.

Re Cat6 cable, go for the blue. Everyone knows sound is better through a cold colour cable. Why do you think they cryogenically treat things? ;-)
