Hi folks,

I have Arcam separates to B&W speakers which are on custom wall shelves and have read online an audiophile review suggesting that a foam cushion under shelved speakers will improve the sound quality?!

Does anyone have any experience of this, and if so can you please recommend somewhere I can buy the right foam?

thanks in advance 🙂

I use Auralex Mopads for my centre speaker, which do help quite a bit.

On my previous centre speaker I compared the mopads with the speaker's own supplied rubber feet: the mopads helped prevent the TV cabinet fron resonating. It was most noticeable in the midrange. They're not especially pretty, but they don't draw too much attention to themselves either. (They're a mid/dark grey).

The ones I had came in a fairly generous box of different wedge shapes. Depending on the angle you required you could combine them to make a flat surface or a more steeply inclined angle. They were spot on for my situation. Much may depend on how sturdy and prone to vibration your shelves currently are. There may be a limit to how much work they can do.

Thanks for the swift reply. Your right they are not very pretty but hey if it improves the sound quality then it's a must!

just read some rave reviews on Amazon and they get much praise. Looks like these are just what I need.

Thanks for your help. Never heard of them before so unlikely I would have accidentally found them.

Nice one 🙂

I also have the mopads after recommendations here. I think they are great. My speakers sit on a wardrobe and chest of draws and I was suffering boomy noise. The pads help isolate the wardrobe and from turning it into a 6ft bass bin. The boom gone and I have no vibration or anything negative anymore coming from my speakers so I think they worked. I actually like their looks as well. ;-)

Hi all,

so thought it may be useful to provide an update about my experience for anyone reading thread and considering the options...

I firstly bought Polipods which sat under speakers and made a good difference, bass tightened and noticeable improvement. Still some shelf reverb though.... Then decided to try the Mopads as per the recommendations. Honestly was blown away by the difference which is truly astounding for what ultimately is foam. Straight up in a different league to Polipods and I recommend everyone buys some of these. They should provide these with high end speakers at purchase.

Massively massively impressive!
