FM signal over digital output

I have my cdplayer directly connected to my power amplifier using the built-in volume control from my cd player. This all works fine, but now i'm looking to connect a tuner to the whole system, without adding a preamplifier.

It seems that there are tuners out there that have digital outputs which can be directly connected to the digital inputs on my cd player.

However, are the digital outputs only being used for DAB, or is there a tuner which can direct the FM signal over the digital outputs also ?

Maybe andrew can shed more light on this but i run my cyrus dab8 via optical out into my cyrus dac x and both dab and fm work this way.

Bow to the superior knowledge in that case, but it seems strange to take an analogue signal and A-to-D only for it to be D-to-A'd again immediately.

Maybe the cyrus kit is unique then andrew but all i can say is im listening to radio2 on fm via optical into my dac x atm.maybe others with dab/fm tuners from other brands have tried this also.

Not if a company wants to 'cover all it's bases' regarding the different ways customers will want to use their components.

I was thinking (long term) of using a DAC/Pre-amp that has one RCA Phono input and USB and optical and co-ax. My turntable + phono stage would take up the one analogue input, so I too would like an FM/DAB Tuner that uses optical/co-ax digital output for both FM and DAB. (Leaving USB for the computer.)

I am hoping this is so with the excellent Denon TU-1800DAB tuner.

It has RCA, Coax and optical outputs but I cannot find anything to say whether the digital outputs will be for output of FM and DAB or just DAB....

The rear panel seems to indicate that the digital outputs will carry both. (At least it does not say otherwise.)

Not doubting you for a minute jd, but it does seem an odd way of doing things just for the sake of convenience.

I did some searching and found out that the Accuphase T-1000 has a digital output for FM use.
