Floorstander upgrade.

I have my set of Wharfedale evo 30's for some time now and think they are the weak link in my system.

What is a good floorstander upgrade to go with the Rega Apollo and Roksan K2 amp?

My room is 6x6m, i listen to all sorts of music from classical to rock, and my budget is around 1000, euro's.

I read a lot about the Rega R5, are these a good upgrade?

The Rega RS5's are very good speakers so theyre worth a demo at least

Other speakers to consider would be:

Monitor Audio RX6's
QUAD 22L2's
B&W 684's and the 683's
B&W CM7's
Neat Motive 2's
PMC GB1's (may have to stretch the budget a bit more for these)

Because i can get the R5's for 500, and the others are well over a 1000,

I live in Holland and the MA RX6 sell here new 1050, euro's no 2nd hand yet!

And the Totem's also around the 1000,-

Are these MA RX6 that much better? if so i have to save up a little.

For me it'd have to be a good contest between the M/A RX6's, QUAD 22L2's and the Rega RS5's

What is it you don't like about the sound? Are the Wharfedales the originals made 4 or 5 years ago? If so, they are crackers and I believe you'll need to spend a grand or so to significantly improve on the Evo 30s.

This is perfect example for a long audition before parting with your money.

I agree with PP. The Evo's, while not quite my cup of tea, were well regarded when they were current about 6 years ago or so. Excellent build quality, and one of Wharfedale's finer speakers of recent years (way better than the current 10 series). I do think a speaker nearer the £1k mark would be more of an upgrade than anything around the £500-600 mark.
