Hi I am new to all this downloading so please bear with me. I have connected the Network Audio Player to my network hub with the an ethernet cable and have suceeded in downloading some MP3 tracks from Amazon. (100 Ray Conniff tracks for £6!) the NA7004 lists these in alphabetical order and works fine. I have downloaded a test FLAC track from Linn. This is 24 bit and about a 25mb. The quality is CD quality not Studio Quality. I have downloaded a codec so that Windows Media Player will play this FLAC file and this is fine through my computer's 2.1 active speaker system .I have put this FLAC file in its own playlist on WMP and the test name and the name I have called it "Symphony Orchestra" scolls on the NA7004 but there is no sound. Is this file incompatible or too large for the NA7004 to handle? Thanks in advance if anyone can answer this. Paul

If it's a 24-bit file it's not CD quality - which track is it? I suspect you may have downloaded the 192kHz/24-bit version or the FLAC surround version, which the Marantz can't play, but let me know what the track is and I'll take a look.

The only Linn test tracks I can see anywhere near 25MB are these, none of which will be playable on the Marantz:

Excerpts are taken from Cantata Tremori al braccio, RV 799 Recitativo: Ah nò, mia cara Elvira track 7 from "Vivaldi L'Amore per Elvira" by La Serenissima.

24bit 192kHz Free Lossless Audio Codec - FLAC Studio Master(192) test (16.8 MB)

24bit 192kHz Apple Lossless Audio Codec - ALAC Studio Master(192) test (18.1 MB)

Excerpt taken from Primer Solo de Concierto para Clarinete track 4 from "Vibraciones del Alma" by Maximiliano Martin and Scott Mitchell.

24bit 88.2kHz 5.1 Surround Free Lossless Audio Codec* -

FLAC Studio Master Surround 5.1 channel test (6.9 MB)

FLAC Studio Master Surround 5.1 excerpt test (21.5 MB)

I think it will be a software problem rather the Marantz, you may need to download something. As for 24bit many say it is a waste of time, if only playing on computer system I doubt you will hear any difference between that and 16bit or even high res. pm3.

Have a look at J River for software for PCs.

Hi BigH. I will do as you suggest. However the Marantz instructions imply that it works with Windows Media Player but does not mention any other software media player. Should it work any or more than one! I have downloaded Foobar 2000 v1.2.2 but not done anything with it yet. I am prepared to buy software as long as it works with the NA7004.

Hi Andrew

Maybe I am wrong to say the test file came from Linn. I now don't really know where I got it from!

I can't copy it here but it is called "PASC 183 test" and is part of a Rachmaninov Symphony.Anyway it seems that the NA7004 will not handle large FLAC files. Which FLAC downloads will it accept? My main genre is jazz.

Thanks for your help Paul

Sorry I misread your question, I thought you were having trouble on your computer. Yes getting music from the computer seems far more complex than I ever imagined. Maybe you need something like Airfoil to get it to play?

It'll handle large FLAC files, just not flles above 24-bit/96kHz. Without knowing what the file is, it's a bit hard to know what the format is.

Thank You very much Andrew.

I now what files to firstly test. The Instruction manual says "FLAC - Sampling frequency 32/44, 1/48/96; Bit rate - : Extension - .flac" I am hopefully learning by the minute.
