Is there a way of converting my FLAC files to something compatible with my touch, would like smaller files say 320kbps.

If you have the space you may as well go lossless, if not the highest bit rate you can. I do confess though that I usually struggle to tell the difference between lossless and 320kbps. Some albums sound a bit flat with the lower bit rate and come alive with lossless. Others dont make much difference.

if you are listening it with headphones on the road, it does not matter, mp3 256 will be good enough.

Wouldn't necessarily agree with that - if listening with a decent set of headphones through an iPod, I noticed the upgrade between 256Kbps MP3s and Lossless. I only use Lossless now because of this and also because it makes life much simpler to only have to have one copy within iTunes.

However, other factors may also influence you to choose AAC or MP3 e.g. depending on which iPod you have, you may need to use a more compressed codec in order to fit more songs on to it.

ok, maybe, I do not listen music on transport myself, but just see how much background noise out there (on buses).

Indeed, hence the decent headphones comment. With my Shure E4c in-ear phones, I can be sitting on the bus, blissfully listening to some Stevie Wonder whilst watching Croydon facelift girl scream at her 12 year old and not hear a word of hers - fabulous!

In fact last year I did all my Christmas shopping round Croydon with them in, only taking them out to communicate briefly with the cashier (as I think it very rude to be listening to music or talking on a phone when paying for something). Honestly, it reduced my normal levels of shopping stress by at least tenfold!

Lol... I've got this image now of prof wandering down the busy high street, blissfully unaware of the general riff raff and mugging attempts...

Try a freeware prog called Xrecode, simple to use and converts all kinds of formats.
