Details of my system:

Amp: Technics Su A 600 MK2 Speakers: Mission M33i; Source: Pioneer DVD Player

Spekare cables/interconnect: Non-branded;

Musical preference: Jazz-Rock Fusion

Room: 12 feet X 10 feet room without any accoustic treatment.

Requirement: I have been thinking of replacing the DVD player with a CD Player (Preference: Marantaz CD5001) for more musical sound. However I was advised to spend the same money on a new amplifier, keeping the pioneer DVD player as a source. This will derive more difference than replacing the source.The logic is that the Mission speakers will not differentiate the incremental audible benefit Marantz may bring over Pioneer DVD player, whereas an entry level amp from Marantz, CA or NAD may bring unforeseen difference in sound vis-a-vis Technics amplifier.I also noted that audio equaliser setting in the DVD player (Pioneer S -383) bring certain improvement in the sound.

I am in dilemma. Will you please help me ? Suggest some more matching models.

I am based in New Delhi.I am sorry to say that facility for demo are vey limited. Any other suggestions are also welcome.

Regards and thanks to all .

I think a dedicated CD player will sound much better than a similary priced DVD player. What model DVD player is it? And what's your budget? Btw. when you're in the market for an amplifier go listen to a Rotel RA-04 - taking into account your musical preference...

cdp sound much better dan dvdp, no doubt.

in audio we believe "*** in *** out", thats mean source is the most important, than output (speaker)

cd5001 is a good choice. i can guarantee u'll hear the different and happy about it.

The amp's quite warm sounding if memory serves, but otherwise a solid option so I'd stick with that for now and go for a sparkier CD player. The usual suspects around the £200 mark (Cambridge, NAD, etc), which is effectively your US $ budget, or see what the used market is in your area and you might pick up a really good deal. Later you can upgrade the others i fyou wish when funds allow.
