First system: Myryad or Nuprime

Hi everyone,

I'm new here, so sorry if I post this in a wrong thread.

I preparing for a while now to enter to the hi-fi world and ready to purchase my first system. My total budget is about £2500.

I'm planing to stay realistic so I don't need a CD player, for beginning I want to get a steamer/DAC and Amp and the speaker. Maybe I'll get a turntable.

So far what I have in mind is the following:

Speaker: PSB X2T

Amp: Myryad Z240 or Audiolab 8300A or Audiolab 8200A or Nuforce or Nuprime

Steamer: Bluesound Node2

I listend to a couple of setups and the PSB speaker is the one I liked the most. But I haven't had a chance to listen the speaker with all the amps I wanted to try - only with the Myryad amp. Can you give me any suggestion? I tried to search for Myryad reviews but seems there is not too much there...

Thanks for your help inadvance!

If you are set with the speakers, you should be fine with a NAD C326Bee and i can recommend this combo. It´s good value and sound for the money. You could also try the Powernode 2 if you don´t plan to connect more sources.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try to listen them.

But I also open for other suggestions about any of the items. I said the PSB as so far amongst what I heard thats the one characteristic I liked.

What sort of music do you play? What size room?

Had a look at those speakers and they seem to be used more in home theatre systems, reading the WHF reviews tells you why. What other speakers have you heard?

I perfer classical music - big orchestral mostly.

About room size, I have 2 options at the moment, I have a smaller room (12 sq meter) but I would prefer for the livingroom (40sq meter)

For PSB X2T I haven't find WHF review... I listend Focal 816, PSB T2, Opera Platea, BW 685 S2 other BW, AE 305, Tannoy XT8F.

Sorry it must have been the X1T: http://www.whathifi.com/psb/imagine-x1t/review

For classical I don't think these are the best choice especially in a small room. Harbeths spring to mind especially in a small room. For classical I would go for a more neatral sounding speaker, try Kefs LS50 and R300, Harbeths, PMC, I would avoid B&W and PSB. Also I would try to hear some active speakers.

Thank you for the suggestions, I'll check the availability.

I'm confused, 40m2 are small? Thats the nr. 1 option, the small room only a marginal possibility.

I currently have 2 small audioengine active speaker for my office - i would like to step up from them.

About the amps do you have any recommendtation?

I should mention that I live in asia, Taiwan - so I have to find brands available here.

No 40sqm is not small. I meant if you used the smaller room. For the larger room floorstanders maybe the best option but I would look to be spending more money for decent Floorstanders. Oh live in Taiwan, hmm I see, well that makes things more difficult as prices and availabilty are not same as UK.

I think Audioengine are powered not active? Anyway there are many different actives, not sure whats available in Taiwan though.

So far I find all of your recommendation. Pricewise its funny... some (Tannoy forex.) are 2x more expensive than in UK, while others (KEF forex.) are only 1.3x...

I can wait and increase my budget for a decent floorstanders - whats your suggestions?

In that case I would try Kefs. For amps you can try Marantz 8005, someone on here has the Marantz 8005 and Kef floorstanders for classical. I also like Creek amps, Arcam worth a try. I would start with the R500 and then try R700. But speakers are a matter of taste its a question of trying many to find the best. Your room is a big factor also. Consider where you can position the speakers, need to be away from corners and many some distance from the walls. Ideally a equilateral triangle between the speakers and you, say speakers 3m apart and you 3ms away from each.

My livingroom looks as follows:

Entrance is to the terrace - 4.2 meter with around 3 meter glass door - this would be one of the right side of the listening setup

To room is long but I would use only a part of it. Speakers would be around 3 meter from me as you said.

Thanks a lot.
