Firmware updates

Having newly purchased a Onkyo 607 I was just curious as to whether AV receivers can have firmware updates and if so how? With the majority of electronics having regular updates out of necessity surely receivers/amplifiers would benefit from updates also?

They definitely can. My 875 has the latest firmware, but there were a number of important updates. For the 875 I believe they are now available on CD.

I have a 606 and have been told it is not current firmware.
This needs to go back to Onkyo (genserve) to have its firmware updated

Seveoaks hifi will handle this as that is where I bought it from.

Some amps have an RS232 port which can be connected from the COM1 port on a suitably equipped PC and the firmware updated manually. Not all amps have RS232 ports and would have to be upgraded via main dealer or RTB.
