Well after all the demo's and too'ing & fro'ing I've finally settled on a system today so paid for it and now awaiting delivery

I went back to the hifi shop today and re-demo'd the NAD C355BEE integrated amp along side the NAD C545BEE CDP (with Black Rhodium Prelude interconnects) with the B&W 683 and 684 speakers; the QUAD 22L2's and the Monitor Audio RX6's.

Demo'd the QUAD's first and they were very good indeed; then demo'd the B&W 683's and they were even better; midrange was smoother and more detailed and the treble less bright! They set the benchmark!

Demo'd the B&W 684's next and they didnt last 5mins; very bloated bass and muddy midrange!

Next came the M/A RX6's and these blew all others out the water! I know I've had the RS6's before and they were superb but the RX6's are really that much better. Deeper, tauter bass with plenty of kick and slam. The midrange was lush, detailed and smooth and the treble was just bob on!

I've ordered the NAD C355BEE amp and NAD C545BEE CDP in black. The M/A RX6's I've ordered in gloss black and I've also gone for an Atacama Equinox hifi 3-tier rack along with Chord Carnival Silverscreen speaker cable, Chord Signature speaker cable jumpers and the Black Rhodium Prelude interconnects.

I'm probably going to order some Cleaer Audio Copperline Alpha power cables in the very near future for the electronics

I'm now a happy boy

Excellent stuff.

With all the doom and gloom of the economy and the media being full of politics - its really good to hear some good news.

I hope to soon join in the fun (Hi-Fi purchasing) but need to save a few more piggy-bank's worth of dosh!

Meanwhile I bet you are itching to get installed and the sounds flowing.

;-)

Yes; they really are! The out & out clairty and punch of the NAD gear gels really well with the dynamics and soundstage of the RX6's.

Their bass weight was better and more punchier than the B&W 683's and they can REALLY shift some air!

I really do think that, for your system, you wont get better for less than £500 than the B&W 685's or the M/A RX1's or 2's.

Gte to SightandSoundUK on Lune Street and demo them

I'm glad it's sorted as well but with that budget I really didnt want to make any mistakes!

The RX6's in gloss black look gorgeous as well

Cant wait to get it all set up and run in!

Great news

Before you take the plunge on mains cable, have a look whats available on the internet for the money your thinking of spending.
You might get discontinued cables cheap.
Id also suggest making your own as a possibility if your into that. And don't forget the Hifi Tuning or Isoclean fuses

Yeah I will do. I'm usually more of an Audio T fan (when I'm not using RS) but they don't do much with NAD these days and I don't want to be lugging my electronics in for an audition so S&S might get my business this time.

Nice one Dan. Sounds like MA have made the right sort of improvements to the RS6s to make them formidible at the price. Bet in that finish they look superb. Nearly at the best bit, the exploration of new music for years to come! Enjoy...

See with Audio T they just didnt seem that bothered (well at the Preston branch anyways). If you werent in to the Naim or Arcam gear they just didnt want to seem to be much help!

The Bolton branch were prepared to bend over backwards for me getting in gear ranging from Neat to PMC and MF gear etc... Just a shame that gear was pushing my budget too much

Russ @ SightandSoundUK in Preston has been really good; very helpful and understanding in the numerous demo's inc some good suggestions and also suggestions to rule out some gear etc... He's also done a very good deal for me re the M/A RX6's so I cant complain

nobody likes the rosewood version? I think its the prettyest one and costs less than the piano finish.

so the rx6 much better than the rs6.didnt't you find them a lot less detailed speaker?

Nice one Dan. Looks like a great system! Bet you can't wait to get it up and running. How much better did you find the RX6's compared to the RX2's with the NADs or was it just a case of wanting floor standers? Look forward to seeing some pics.

ear:so the rx6 much better than the rs6.didnt't you find them a lot less detailed speaker?

No; not at all, as staed above really.

The RS6's were great speakers but the RX6's have really gone one better.

Depper, more detailed and tauter bass with plenty of kick and slam. The midrange is very smooth but detailed and well timed and the treble is bob on. Not bright at all but crisp and clear and a delight with vocals. But, dont forget, that's in my opinion and with the NAD gear feeding them!

The M/A RX2's are great speakers; on decent stands they sounded superb with the NAD gear but as I've a fairly large living room, it can take the floorstanders with ease plus the RX6's are hell of a lot smaller than the RX2's when on stands; they're 1m tall on 600mm stands (i.e. Atacama HS1's or Partington Super Dreadnoughts)!

The bass depth and punch on the M/A RX6's is addictive as well... The kick you get when playing Massive Attack and stuff by The Beastie Boys is superb
