Hi all,

Still plodding through the unenviable task of ripping our entire CD collection!

It's going OK but my Macbook Pro seems to top out at 22x speed when burning in iTunes (Lossless with error protection).

I've read that buying a fast external CD drive could help but I'm not really up with these types of units. Anyone got a 52x CD drive they can recommend?

With the question you ask I thought you might have a new model Mac Mini without the DVD/CD-drive.

But that seems not to be the case, so you should do fine with your Macbook Pro. ;)

There might be some second/hand external CD drives with Firewire- or USB-connection, but I doubt they have been sold very much.

Buying a new one is not worth the money since you actually can rip your CD's now anyway.

Yes, this task takes time but you will enjoy it in the end. :type:

And 22x speed is pretty good I would have thought. My Samsung external drive is never as fast as that. Or maybe it's my MacBook Air that's not powerful enough.

Wait til you come across a cd which won't rip faster than 3x or 4x at the start and maybe pushes the dizzy heights of 6x or 7x at the end.
