Hi guys

2 questions;

i need to take a 30 meter ethernet cable from up stairs bedroom, up thru loft, right across, thru outside wall, down the outside wall & into lounge to connect up to PS3 (wireless/homeplugs not giving me performance I want!). So someone has told me that I am fine to take cabling outside of house without any trunking....is this true ? - I am worried that wire is open to elements.

Secondly, will i see any difference in performance over a £5 ebay cable over a £30 cable form my local PC shop ?

Any advise greatly received

Thanks

Personally I would trunk it - replacing that length of cable would be a bit of a nightmare should something happen to it because it's unprotected.

For ethernet, as long as the cable is the correct spec i.e. Cat5 or above for the PS3, then cables are all pretty much of a muchness. Before anyone gets their knickers in a twist about HDMI cables being digital and therefore the same etc. etc., the communication between your PS3 is TCP/IP which has an incredible amount of error control built in to ensure the digital information is processed correctly and received error free.

Trouble is, the PS3 is only 801.11b/g compatible which, in my experience, just isn't up to the job of streaming video. I also ran ethernet round my flat to get round that.

Comes to something when you have to cover yourself in a post like that.Lol

I'm afraid I tend to watch those posts from a distance,they sometimes get to personal and heavy for me.

Would love to go wireless, but when the PS3 takes over 30 seconds to buffer an MP3, I think I need to try something else.

Thanks for the advise guys
