hi all,got a panny x10 and ps3.when watching a dvd using ps3 wat setting should the dvd upscaler be on? i find it better just ticking the 576&720 boxes,as my x10 is only hd ready.but would like to know if by ticking the 1080i&1080p boxes should it be better.also would like to know wat other settings the ps3 for playing dvd should be on.

As the panny doesnt have a true 720 screen you'll probably find its better by not upscaling at all

As you have it now (Or even as 1080) the PS3 upscales to 720 or 1080 then the pan either upscales or downscales AGAIN

By having just the tv do it, it only upscales the once

Try them all to be sure but I made the mistake on my Pioneer 768 screen of upscaling via the source when it looks FAR better with the tv upscaling

The settings on the PS3 should be RGB LIMITED and AUTO

As aliEnRIK says, it comes down to the native resolution of your set and quality of the scaler in the TV - the one in mine (an older Panasonic) seems to be pretty woeful in that I find the picture is better when the PS3 upscales to 1080p rather than 720p even though it is also an HD Ready TV, not Full HD. I put this down to the native resolution of 768 lines, thus with 720p, the TV is upscaling again to fit the 768 lines, whereas with 1080p, the TV is downscaling which it appears to be able to do much better. Leaving at 576p and letting the TV upscale gives an awful picture! So there's no right or wrong answer, just try them all and go with the one you prefer.

For the other upscaling settings, I use Normal for the BD / DVD Upscaler setting as this doesn't mess around with the picture other than upscaling it unlike the other settings which I prefer. Again though, use the setting you prefer - there's no right or wrong answer.
