does anyone know if i bought a panasonic dmr-ex79 dvd recorder in the uk would its digital tuner work in the rest of europe any help would be great thanks
Not a firm answer, but perhaps ask your retailer. My wife grew up in Belgium, and when she moved here she need to replace the analogue tuner in her B&O telly to pick up UK stations. Not sure the same rules apply to digital tuners tho.
Most, if not all of Europe uses DVB standard but I think there is more to it than that e.g. compression and two different modes of COFDM (2k / 8k), so I can't confirm whether it would work or not. There might be issues with the EPG and so on.
thanks for the answers i know europe uses secam instead of pal and picture is ok but it doesn't decode sound but i wasn't sure if this affected the digital tuner in the same way
Only France, Russia and a few Eastern european countries (due to the Soviet Union connection no doubt) use Secam, PAL being the format of choice for everyone else throughout Europe. Secam is an analogue transmission format so has no relevance to digital broadcasting.
thanks for that i was taking it to cyprus and i know the old philips recorder i took a few years ago would only record video not sound but that was analog tuner, does anyone know if the digital tuner on the panasonic recorders connect direct to a dish or do they still need a sat box
