Have just purchased the panasoic lxd70 and am really pleased with it. What a revelation. Thanks for all the advice. Because I love the viewing experience so much, I'm now thinking that I would to buy a DVD player. I've know idea which one of course. Also, I really want to be able to record from freeview. I bought TVonics from ebay and guess what, it doesn't work!!! I'm now in the process of returning it and am holding out for a refund with paypal.

Any advice on the DVD?recorder?

At the risk of sounding over-obvious, a Panasonic DVD recorder would do the job plus cut your remote-control count down - there are some crazy offers around on the outgoing models, which are decent players, too. We gave the DMR-EX77 (Freeview DVD recorder with 160GB hard drive) five stars at £300, and you can buy it for nearer £200 these days.

Or the Sony RDRHXD870 at £180 from Lasky's. Has Series recording too.

I have an older Pioneer without HDMI, but ease of use is terrific.

Absolutely! Record everything to the Hard drive, watch it, delete it.

If you want to save it, either leave it on the hard drive (you've got 80hrs capacity) or copy to DVD.

They have editing functions so you can remove sections (ie adverts) before saving to DVD.
