I need to upgrade my ageing home cinema system. I'm currently using Pioneer DV575A, Cyrus amp to run the front speakers and Yamaha DSP E800 to run the centre, rears and output to the sub. This system allows me to play my DVD audio and SACD 5.1 collection. What Blu-ray and multi channel amp would be a suitable replacement. I was thinking along the lines of Sony BDP550 and Denon AVR1910. Would this still allow me DVD audio/SACD functions and what style speaker system would you recommend(my wife says the current Tannoy MX's are too big). I may be able to get Tannoy Arena Lites for about £250?. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No, you wouldn't be able to play DVD audio or SACD with the suggested setup. Sony BDP550 doesn't support these formats.

There are still only few universal players around, actually now I think of it I believe there is just the incredibly expensive (but also capable) Marantz just reviewed by the WhatHifi group. The price? 5000£!

Denon is about to launch a similar (identical?) universal player in the same price range.

Then there is of course the highly awaited (during a year now I think) Oppo BD 831. The price has not been announced yet but is expected to be in the range 450 - 500£. It should be launched within the next month (but that has also been claimed before...)

Also Cambrigde is about to launch an universal player. The price should be similar to the Oppo. I am not sure there are any details about when it will be launched.

Looks like I'll be keeping the Pioneer DV575 a bit longer. A thought, I presume I could connect the Pioneers multichannel analog outs to The Denons multichannel analog ins, it mean I may have both Blu-ray and DVD players for a while.
