Dump Question - Do I need a pre-amp?

Hi,

This might be a really stupid question.. but here goes...

I've got a Marantz PM7001 amp - integrated amp.

I'm buying a Project Debut (Genie III) turntable...

Do I need a pre-amp?

I've not had one before, but I used to have an automatic turntable and can't remember if that had a pre-amp built in as I did use it with a micro hi-fi system years ago.

If your amp has a phono stage, the turntable will work ok.

But if your marantz doesnt have a phono stage you will need an external one

The PM7001 has a built-in phono stage - and a pretty respectable one, at that.
