Unusual question:

I want to play my 1080p Blu-ray DVD’s in their proper 1080p format, and not upscale to 4K.

I can set my bluray player to 1080p but I‘m unable to find where I can set my 4K oled to downscale to 1080p, because I want to view the BDs as they were intended and upscaling on some Bds look unnatural... TV model number is detailed in my signature.

Any ideas?

If you display native HD on a 4K TV the picture would only be a quarter of the size of the screen, hence a TV will always upscale what it is being fed to the resolution of the TV panel.

Scalers varies in quality so if you’re TV is not doing a good job try letting the player do it, to see if this improves the performance.

Many 4K players have a feature that can convert non HDR content to pseudo HDR, which unfortunately in most cases is pretty naff, so make sure any feature like this is turned off. (As a rule of thumb you should turn all processing on the equipment off and use them in cinema (Or similar) mode for best performance)

Ok and thanks for the replies.

I don’t think I’ve explained my self properly :) I want to know how to set in my Panasonic TV to display in 1080p only for Bds in 1080p. For 4k, I will reset back to 4K. I can’t find a setting in my TV that allows you to do this.

Yes I have all processing switched off as a rule and it’s calibrated and has 2 ISF modes, but is i5 possible to set to 1080p and stop the tv upscaling?

Does this make sense?
I'm still confused. It is impossible to display 1080p blu ray in 1080p resolution on a 4K TV. Your Panasonic 4K TV cannot display in 1080p.

A 1080p image occupies 2073600 pixels. A 4K image occupies 8294400 pixels. 2073600 X 4 = 8294400. So 1080p picture on a 4K screen will only occupy 25% of the screen.

It’s ok, it’s me. You have both answered my question. I’ve just gone back and re-read them.
cheers
