went to a shop this afternoon and bought the following:

Denon 2500bd

Yamaha rxv1900

QAcoustics 1010i

Have been slitting cables all bloody night only to find out I havent been given enough speaker plugs!

oh boy I cant wait to get this up and running! Like a little school kid all over again!

the 2500 is a big unit! but it is a simple affair too, only the hdmi on the back together with the power - simple.

the 1900 is a heavy unit - although maybe its just becasue its my first av receiver and I am not used to the weight and size of things? Still - it is very impressive and I cant wait to boother up - I shall call her Satans Daughter - thats what I will be being called by my neighbours in the morning once I've fired her up for the first time! tee hee...

I cannot get over the finish, look and feel of the speakers either. I know they are not the be all and end all when it comes to speakers but I am very impressed so far.

What to play on it first? suggestions please.

many thnaks for all of the reviews and posts on this site that; whilst have driven me mad over the past two weeks! Have helped inmy decision making on this system.

Matt

Some good gear there. Take your time setting it up and just let it work itself in. You'll probably find yourself tweaking things for months to get it just right. If you have it, try playing the car chase scene from The Dark Knight. Has everything deep bass and plenty of panning around the speakers. The scene inside the armoured car when it gets shot at is ace for sound placement.

Blast Die Hard 4.0 on your system. Hear that DTS HD-MA sound and be amazed! Nice kit, by the way.

Transformers.......I just got the RXV-1900 as well and this was my first Blu-ray on it.......just amazing. Once I had set up for the first time I used the opening gunfight sequence from Die Hard 4 to test everything was set up right... amazing also. But Transformers video quality also blew me away should look amazing on your new Denon, Megan Fox in HD what can I say.......

Thanks for the replies folks, first thing today - get some more speaker plugs!

I get all my Blu Ray's through from blockbuster through a deal I have with them, I am ashamed to say I only own one disc and thats the Dark Night. Shall spin it up later on and let you know the results. i do have Bolt from them too at the moment so looks like being a busy / lazy day!

Matt

You won't be let down giving Bolt a spin mate. Excellent surround mix as always with Disney animation.

I always fire up 'Star Wars: Phantom Menace, Pod Race scene. It will give your sub a major workout, the start of 'Saving Private Ryan' is awsome too!

It is all set up and working, after another hellish day with plugs!

However, seems to be sorted now.

Question, how do I (loop i think you call it?) the sky hd to the tv so that the av doesnt have to be on all the time?

Matt

If you don't want to turn on the AV (personally I love the improved sound, but it may not be convenient) route the HDMI lead from the Sky box direct to the TV. Don't forget you still need optical from Sky to receiver and set the box to output Dolby Digital.

Has anyone else noticed how brilliant the surround sound is from Wimbledon?

Sorreltiger, I agree that the improved sound is awesome.

I am new to this and am a little worried about over use, reliability and fault issues etc..

I watch a lot of tv and if I cant by pass it it would be on for a hell of a long time - particularly at weekends and thursdays (my day off)

Do I need to worry or not?

I have an optical to the receiver, trying to find out how to set it to dolby right now.

thanks for your help
