Does Sky+ need the aerial plugged in?

Hi. I've recently got Sky+ and the engineer connected the normal aerial into it. Is this needed or have I missed something? Many thanks!

I think there's a loop-through, so the Sky+ box can be used with TVs without a Scart connection, sending the TV signal over an RF cable.

With a Scart cable connected, you don't need the aerial connection. In fact you don't need an aerial connection to the TV at all, unless you want to watch terrestrial TV with the Sky box on.
